About Glandore

In the ownership of the same family for nearly fifty years, Glandore has been both a guest house and self catering apartments. As Glandore Guest House, it achieved thirty five years of accommodating a loyal and discerning regular clientele, first of all with Frank Smith and his sister, Gwen, then with Frank and his wife, Nan (Heath) and finally with Stephen Morris (Frank's nephew) and his wife, Lois.

Glandore has had a strong connection with art and artists since Nan Heath (a Staffordshire Potteries artist) married Frank Smith in 1971 and came to live on Scilly. They ran Glandore Guest House together until Stephen and Lois joined them in 1981. Nan and Frank subsequently retired from the guest house and opened Nan Heath Studio 4 in the Porthloo Barn Studios, adjacent to Glandore. Frank kept the Nan Heath Studio going after her untimely death in 1995 but found it increasingly difficult.

So it was decided to close Glandore Guest House in August 2000 and reopen as Glandore Apartments in June 2001. Glandore became two self catering apartments - Serica for two guests and Golden Eagle for two/three guests. Since Stephen himself had always been an artist, we were also able to move the Nan Heath Studio into Glandore after the guest house closed and opened Glandore Gallery in spring 2002. In 2011, we added a third apartment named Slippen, a ground floor apartment for two guests.
