"Lost Path, Carn Leh", Old Town, St Mary's, Isles of Scilly Artist: Stephen Morris
"Time" Exhibition at 44AD Gallery, Bath, UK, November 2021

Watercolour painting on paper | Dimensions: approx 36 inches tall by 29 inches wide | £800 (GBP 800)

One of two Lost Paths, painted mostly in inks, but the rocky outcrop of Carn Leh is depicted in more subtle watercolours at the centre of the painting. Carn Leh is still part of the main island of St Marys just off Old Town Bay. I call it an "apprentice island" because one day it will separate. This path to it from the churchyard is eroding. The path I used to walk as a lad is already on the rocks below and this one will follow in the near future. Not all of Scilly is disappearing, being mostly granite, it's quite robust and I'm sure will be here in thousands of years time. But nothing is permanent. Life is flux.
